Become an SSI Open Water Instructor
So… you’ve done the dives. Logged the hours. Carried tanks. Dealt with “that” diver…
Now it’s time to step up!
At Scuba Moraira, we turn solid Divemasters into proper instructors: The kind people actually trust underwater…
No shortcuts! No nonsense! No “hope they pass” energy!
Why Train With Scuba Moraira?
Small groups: you’re not just another number
Straight-talking coaching: we fix things, not ignore them
Real teaching skills (not just exam tricks)
Strong focus on empathy and communication
Support all the way to your Instructor Evaluation
End result:
You don’t just pass! You’re actually ready!
What You’ll Be Doing
Theory (don’t worry, we keep it human)
Teaching presentations (yes, in front of people… scary, we know)
In-water skills until they’re clean, sharp, and demo-worthy
Real teaching scenarios
SSI standards without the headache
Duration: Enough to do it right. Not rushed. Not dragged out.

The ITC Breakdown
Day One: Welcome to Reality
We start with ITC Prep.
You meet the team, we go through your schedule, and very quickly it becomes clear this isn’t a relaxed diving holiday.
We check your paperwork (please don’t make this painful), run a skills workshop, and finish with a Pre-Exam.
This is where we find out:
what you’re good at
what needs work
and what needs serious work
The Training Days
Days run roughly 08:00–18:00.
Yes, it’s long. No, we’re not apologising.
You’ll rotate through:
Academic presentations (talking clearly is harder than you think)
Confined water (where your “perfect skills” get reviewed properly)
Open water (where everything becomes slightly more honest)
There are breaks: we’re strict, not cruel. But expect to spend your evenings preparing, because showing up unprepared is a great way to suffer publicly the next day.
Small Groups ! No Escape!
We keep groups small on purpose.
There’s nowhere to hide. No disappearing behind stronger candidates. You will be seen, corrected, and improved.
You’ll get:
More feedback
More water time
More chances to fix things before it matters
Mistakes are fine.
Ignoring feedback is not.
The Goal
We’re not here to push you through.
We’re here to make sure that when you leave, you’re:
Confident
Competent
And someone we’d actually trust with our own students
Because “they passed somehow” is not the Scuba Moraira standard.
What Happens After?
Pass your Instructor Evaluation (IE)
Get certified
Start teaching anywhere in the world
Simple!
Again… not easy. But worth it!
Our Philosophy
Train Hard!
Dive Smart!
Keep it Simple!
The Honest Bit
Some instructor courses are built like this: Get them through the exam and hope for the best!
Ours isn’t.
We train you so you can:
Control a group
Actually teach (not just talk)
Stay calm when things go sideways
Understand your students, not just instruct them
Because here’s the truth: If you don’t have empathy, this job isn’t for you.
Teaching diving is easily 50% skill… and 50% understanding people.
